Orissa lost to Bihar by an innings and 191 runs on the second day of their three-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Ispat Stadium in Rourkela today. This was Orissa’s 11th defeat and third by an innings in 15 Ranji Trophy matches against Bihar.
Put into bat by Bihar captain Prakash Bhandari, Orissa were all out for 102 with Anand Shukla bagging six wickets for Bihar. In reply, Bihar rode on a century each by Daljit Singh and Ramesh Saxena to declare at 451 for seven. Needing 350 to escape innings defeat, Orissa were bowled out for 158 in the second innings.
Barring a knock of 40 by opening batsman Mukul Roy Chowdhury in the second innings and a three-wicket haul by Aditya Mohanty, no other Orissa player could put up notable performance. KS Dureja, Sujit Mohanty and M Kanungo made their first-class debut for Orissa in this match. Ispat Stadium became the third Orissa venue to stage first-class match.
